Draining Dishwasher Through Floor

The drain hose from your dishwasher empties into the garbage disposal drain.

The venting is required to prevent air lock when draining. Protect the floor under and in front of the dishwasher with old towels. The pipe it is connecting to is larger than the dishwasher drain pipe and the air inside the pipe will provide enough air for venting. Dishwasher drain under the floor dishwashers require air gaps above the flood rim of the fixture receiving the discharge.

Run your garbage disposal. If pipe above water line has build up knock it off with a drain brush. If you loop the drain under the cabinet and strap it up high before going through the floor this will provide the trap needed. Use cups or other containers to scoop out the water and transfer it to the sink drain.

The drain line runs from the disposal up to the air gap and back down to the dishwasher. Make sure water at water line is fresh and if it s a floor sink clean it and run drain basket through dishwasher. Moving a dishwasher full of water can be messy. My idea is to drill a hole in the floor and run it right under the floor.

Use a couple of towels to soak up the last portion of the water. The dishwasher is 30 inches high. If you direct connect below the floor and the line becomes blocked most likely the sewage will back up into the dishwasher remind me if i ever visit not to eat or drink from your dishes. Pull the dishwasher drain line from the side of the garbage disposal and place it in the bucket.

I will drill holes through the joists just under the floor to the sink. If the disposal unit contains unground food or if food sludge settles in the drainpipe below. If this gasket gets ripped brittle or worn out water will overflow onto the floor. There is a hole drilled from the basement right below the dw so the water hose going in and the drain hose are through that opening the drain hose then is routed to a p trap nearby but it is indeed also accessed from just below the floor.

When the appliance man was here we let water fill the dw then we opened the dw and watched it drain out.
